The joggle mutant mouse exhibits abnormal behaviors such as a hesitant and joggle-like gait. In addition, we found they show no startle response to sounds and an inability to swim. These clinical traits are controlled by a single@autosomal recessive gene.
In this study, the histopathological findings of severe damage in inner ears of homozygotes have been demonstrated. And we develop a rapid and simple gene mapping method using the congenic joggle mouse strain. We map the mutant gene to the nearby markers D6Mit104 and D6Mit336. From the mouse genomic sequence database, we can estimate this region is located around 11Mb between 114.4Mb and 125.14Mb on chromosome 6.
